Description

The present work is a revised Habilitationsschrift presented to the University of Heidelberg in 1988. It is a sequel to the author’s earlier dissertation, Die Komposition der Vätergeschichte, and together they represent a massive tour de force for a new approach to the historical criticism of the Pentateuch. With a total of about 1000 pages of tight argument, much of it in fine print and with extensive documentation, the task of reading Blum’s work is not for the faint-hearted. Yet so challenging and erudite is his work and so broad his range of the literature on the Pentateuch that no one who engages in the serious study of the Pentateuch today can ignore it.
