It was to a large extent a copy of the Manx bible of 1775 issued by the Society for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge. SPCK. The first complete Bible in Manx Gaelic was published in 1772 thanks to the efforts of Bishop Hildesley after the completion of the translation of the New Testament between 1748 and 1768. The English version appears next to the Manx text.
