This book gives the critical edition of two commentaries on Aristotle's De anima by Nicole Oresme (ca. 1320-1382), the distinguished Parisian philosopher, theologian, and natural scientist. In contrast to the writings for which he is best known-i.e., his independent treatises on the quantification of quality and his brilliant polemics against the practices of astrology and divination-the works edited in the present volume show Oresme at an earlier stage of his career, developing his ideas within the medieval tradition of Aristotelian natural philosophy.
