I hope to outline below some of these similarities, utilizing methods analogous to those of Landar. In addition, I will attempt to show that for the Tzeltal materials, conjunctive definitions for verbs of eating are at least plausible, a solution that Landar finds inappropriatefor his Navaho data. Finally, it is suggested that more evidence concerning verbs of eating in language groups that lie between the Mayan and Southern Athabascan languages may be worthy of collection in reference to comparative problems in American Indian culture history.
