Description

Heidegger scholars agree that the manner in which Heidegger handles language is inseparably bound up with what he has to say and must therefore be taken as an intrinsic part of the method or "way" of his thinking. Recent analyses of Heidegger's special uses of language have however tended, Robert Mugerauer observes, to span Heidegger's work as a whole, rather than to elaborate Heidegger's theory of language by focusing in detail on individual texts. Mugerauer therefore offers here a close, careful reading and analysis of three of Heidegger's works, "Discourse on Thinking", "A Dialogue on Language" and "What is Called Thinking?", and demonstrates clearly that Heidegger's language and thinking are in a very real sense the same.
