Description
"[The Teaching of the Theological Manuals](http://www.strobertbellarmine.net/viewtopic.php?p=7489)" by Msgr. Fenton says:> Probably the most important of these manuals were those of Louis Billot, who will most certainly be counted among the very ablest of all the theologians who labored for the Church during the early part of this century. … whose text, *De Ecclesia Christi: sive Continuatio theologiae de Verbo Incarnato* ,16 still remains the best theological treatment on the Church produced during the course of the past hundred years.> 16 A fifth edition of the first volume of this work was published by the Gregorian University in Rome in 1927. A third edition of the much smaller, but still immensely important second volume appeared in 1929. The De ecclesia is generally recognized to be the finest of all the theological writings of Cardinal Billot. It must not be forgotten that the late Pope Pius XII, in an address to the students of the Gregorian, named Billot as a theologian who should be a model for all of the teachers of sacred doctrine in our time.
