Description

This historical and ethnographical study asks how an urban society culturally came to terms with the challenges posed by multiple ethnicities brought about by labor migration in the late nineteenth century. To do so, the author reads in and between the lines of newspaper reports on miners’ strikes in the South-West Hungarian city of Pécs in order to explore practices of culturally constructing a social space specific to one location.
