Elements Of Ethics
Book information
Description
This book consists of ten lectures Moore delivered in 1898, here edited and introduced by Regan ( Bloomsbury's Prophet: G. E. Moore and the Development of His Moral Philosophy , LJ 5/1/87). Regan explains both the relationship of the lectures to now relatively forgotten figures of the period and their place in the development of Moore's moral philosophy, especially in relation to the more rigorous Principa Ethica , whose content it largely parallels. Moore's Platonic metaphysical presuppositions and his view that ethics is concerned not only with questions of right conduct but with inquiring into what is good are clearer in The Elements of Ethics ; and he here articulates a link between his common-sensism and the theory of evolution. An important publication for philosophers specializing in 20th-century philosophy or moral philosophy. - Robert Hoffman, York Coll., CUNY
