Debrecen, 1995. — 164 p.The purpose of this reader is to introduce students already familiar with the important concepts of generative grammar and truth-functional semantics to some of the basic concepts of cognitive grammar. It cannot be expected to be fully comprehensive, partly because important papers pertaining to the field have already been published in another reader (Gleanings in Modern Linguistics 1991, compiled by B. Korponay and P. Pelyvás). This volume can be said to be thematic in the sense that all the papers included in it share one important characteristic: they make explicit comparisons between the background assumptions and procedures of generative syntax on the one hand and those of cognitive grammar on the other.
