Book information
Description
Many people who learn Hindi today have an interest in obtaining a knowledge of Urdu also. They will be assisted by the present volume, a conversion text allowing use of the author's "Outline of Hindi Grammar" for this purpose. The materials of the "Outline" are presented here in Urdu (Perso-Arabic) script, with the relevant differences between Urdu and Hindi in vocabulary usage and grammar introduced and explained as they arise. Vocabularies and exercises are presented. Those who have used the "Outline" will have the advantage, when they take up this book, that their introduction to Urdu is via Hindi-Urdu material already familiar to them. The book can also be used in conjunction with the "Outline" by those who have not already studied Hindi, since the materials are all presented in a Roman script transliteration. To assist the beginner's progress beyond the limits of this book, separate sections on Persian and Arabic elements in Urdu, and annotated reading passages from a novel which has been published in both styles, are provided.
