Description

The mysterious writer Alan Mac Clyde and the no-less obscure illustrator Carlo have been hailed as two veritable masters of the modern S&M imagery. Heir to the so-called dark feuilleton, Mac Clyde authored a dozen of incredible novels sporting such tell-tale titles as: Dressage, Bagne de femmes, Servitude, Despotisme féminin, Dolorès amazone, Esclavage, La Reine cravache, Cuir et peau, Le Cuir triomphant, Dolly esclave, all printed in the surrealist Paris of the Thirties by a “specialized” publisher. With his bizarre graphic inventions sporting a wickedly refined taste, Carlo was a veritable forerunner of the genre and became the source of inspiration for a whole generation of S/M & bondage artists, from John Willie to Eric Stanton, from Eneg to Jim, from Bill Ward to Robert Bishop. Known as the masters of the “cuir verni” (patent leather), Mac Clyde and Carlo (or anyone hiding under these aliases) managed to create a fascinating oneiric and surreal universe, replete with eroticism and exoticism, cruelty and elegance, horror and delirium. It all, obviously, with the blessing of the Divine Marquis.
