The following sections are designed to familiarize speakers of Navajo with certain basic concepts in articulatory photetics. Illustrations are primarily from Navajo, but an effort is made to ender the material more generally useful by introducing articulatory distinctions made in other languages as well. The material is based on work done by K. Hale and L. Honie at M.I.T. It was suppoted in part by grants from the National Institute of Health (Grant No. 5 TO1 HD 00111-07) and the National Institute of Mental Health (Grant No. 5-TŌ-MH-13390-05)
