Dictionnaire Jуola Kujamutay (Diola Fogny)
Book information
Description
Publisher: University of Virginia Charlottesville Publication date: 1993 Number of pages: 257A note on the orthography: In contrast to my grammar (A Grammar of Diola-Fogny, Cambridge University Press, 1965) I use a simplified orthography throughout the dictionary where the only non-common letter is the velar nasal (η). Since Jóola is not a tone language (where the accents, [á, à, etc.] mark tone) I am free to mark the tense vowels (tongue root advanced) with the acute accent. Vowel length is marked by a double vowel (aa, ee, ii, oo, uu) and a tense long vowel by accenting only the first letter (áa, ъu). Vowel harmony (an important feature of the language) is not marked, (cf. Big and Thin). Click here to see the phonetic chart that is used for the dictionary.
