Ankara: Ankara Üniversitesi Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya Fakültesi Türkoloji Dergisi 19, 1(2012) 33-42.The paper deals with the origin of the suffix +(X) mtul which was first attested in the 14th century. It is generally added to colour names, although not exclusively, with a diminutive function describing a lighter tone. The author sums up and evaluates the hypotheses of former scholars according to the history of the suffix and presents a new proposal.
