The history of the Indian sub-continent has suffered more from the interpretations of the pseudo-secular Marxist historians, than from actual iconoclasts & plunderers. Entire races, languages and memories have been wiped out of history and depicted as figments of imagination, only because the depiction of truth would have hurt the ruling party and their colonies badly, in their quest for votes. Fortunately, some classic works still remain with us, although rarely available nowadays since these books are not espoused as textbooks or reference by the vested interest lobby for obvious reasons. This scholarly work in question, first brought out by the Dhaka University, remains a standard. The volume under discussion is only the first part, dealing with the ancient history of the lower Gangetic delta (and obviously some parts of the Brahmaputra valley) known as Bengal. If you are actually interested in knowing the history of this part of the sub-continent (and not interested in imposing some imported model upon the facts, and in the process deleting everything that doesn't fit), you HAVE to read this book.
