Description

This is a critical edition of Theodoret's principal dogmatic work, "Eranistes". This edition is the first new edition since that of J. L. Schulze in 1772 and the first to include all extant manuscripts. It is based on a collation of the ten existing and available manuscripts which contain the work (one other is inaccessible, another must be presumed lost) varying in date from the tenth to the sixteenth century. Ettlinger deals at length (pp. 41-54) with the manuscript tradition, dividing the manuscripts into three groups and showing the relationships among the groups. The text is attractively printed (pp. 61-266), with three forms of apparatus: references for the patristic florilegia, references to Scripture, and critical apparatus of the Greek text
