In all cases, the explosions occurred in singlestage centrifugal process type pumps where the suction and delivery valves were either closed or the lines were blocked. Research revealed that this is a world-wide phenomenon. It was decided to investigate to determine the causes and try eliminate or at best reduce, the risk of further occurrence.
