But soon the resistance had graduated to serious Nazi hunting. Through arson, torture and assassination with improvised weapons – fencing foils covered with barbed wire, garrotes, newspaper daggers, makeshift firebombs – the resistance fighters made the Nazis pay dearly for their presence.
