Description

This book takes an empirically grounded perspective on research in values, intimacy and sexuality, among other topics in psychology, to highlight the importance of searching for human subjectivity in its diversity, plurality and self-generativity. The author conducts an in-depth discussion on the methodological and epistemological issues enabling the study of subjectivity, and argues that in order to improve the contribution of psychology to human knowledge, a study of subjectivity must be at the forefront. This book presents a critical reflection of the author’s decades-long research within psychology to argue for a significant paradigm shift in the conception and execution of psychological research: a shift to “second order psychology”.  Acknowledgement Contents List of Figures List of Tables Chapter 1: Diversity of Human Subjectivity Served on a “Social Representations Tray” 1.1 Subjective Inclinations to Subjectivity… 1.2 …and Objective Justifications 1.3 From Positivism to Critical Psychology and Beyond 1.4 Towards the Integration of Psychology 1.5 From Self, via “the Person,” to Psychological Subjectivity and the Art-of-Living 1.6 Diversity in Subjectivity 1.7 Social Representations Chapter 2: Values, Individual and Cultural Subjectivity and Predictions of Political Participation (in Slovakia) 2.1 Individual and Cultural Subjectivity “Encoded” in Values Chapter 3: Sexual Subjectivity 3.1 The Birth of Sexology: The Subjectivity Story of Sexuality 3.2 Words, Texts, Their Tectonics and the Sexual Subject 3.3 Subjectivity of Sexual Performance 3.3.1 Subjective Meaning of Sex 3.3.2 Sexual Satisfaction 3.3.3 Sexual Debut Sexual Debut Age of Sexual Debut Sexual Debut Motives Going Beyond Incongruent Sexual Scripts on Sexual Debut Parents, Children and Sexual Debut 3.3.4 Coping with Taboos, Sins, Risks13 and Their Justifications 3.3.5 Roots of Violent Sexual Subjectivity: The Subjectivity of the Boundary Between Wanted and Unwanted Sex and Sexuality in the Media Chapter 4: Collective Subjectivity—Intimacy, Norms, Gender and Intimate Citizenship 4.1 The Intimacy–Extimacy Dialectics of Transmuted Intimacy 4.2 New Kinds of Moral Norms and New Sexual Subjectivities 4.3 Current Regional “Narratives” of Gender Subjectivity 4.4 Particularization of the Subject and the Political Risks Chapter 5: Epistemological and Methodological Challenges of Subjectivity 5.1 Q-Methodology for Studying “Operant Subjectivity” 5.2 Q-Study as Discourse Analysis Versus “Mainstream” Discourse Analysis 5.2.1 Q-Assisted Discourse Analysis 5.2.2 “Mainstream” Use of Discourse Analysis—Analysis of Discursive Practice 5.2.3 “Mainstream” Use of Discourse Analysis—Analysis of Discursive Resources 5.2.4 Analysis of Discursive Resources Conductive to Mainstream Psychology (What Are the Minority Discourses on Sexual Seduction in Roma in Slovakia?) 5.3 Epistemological Triangulation in the Study of Sexual Subjectivity 5.4 “Advanced Thinking” for Social Sciences and Humanities 5.4.1 Positive Deviance—Highlighting the Power of Non-normative Subjectivity—Contrasting Community Norms 5.4.2 Psychotherapy in Relation to Subjectivity 5.4.3 From Assemblages to Predictions—Exploiting Design Thinking, Systems Thinking and Modelling Chapter 6: Instead of a Conclusion—A New Starting Point?
