Predatory Priests, Silenced Victims: The Sexual Abuse Crisis and the Catholic Church is an anthology of essays by experts on the issues pertaining to clerical sexual abuse, including psychoanalysts, biblical scholars, clergy, historians, survivors of sexual abuse, and cultural critics. Predatory Priests, Silenced Victims vigorously debunks myths such as the false belief that homosexual priests are more likely to commit abuse (which statistics have shown to be wrong), that the preponderance of abuse is committed by priests under the influence of alcohol or other drugs (again, statistics show that the majority of predatory priests are "clean and sober"), or that celibacy by itself propagates abuse (of much greater concern is the demonization of both women and human sexuality promoted along with the celibacy). Ultimately, Predatory Priests, Silenced Victims does not pigeonhole itself to a single "root" cause of clerical sexual abuse, but rather scrutinizes the severe problem from all angles in the search for better means to prevent future victimizations.
