This is the story of a Western spiritual seeker who whilst in India in the 1990s makes a succession of poor decisions that led to him spending over three and a half years in an Indian prison for possession of hashish. It is a story of an inner and outer journey through shame, humbleness, finding pearls in the muck while being present to whatever was arising in the most adverse of circumstances. It is a story of courage and cowardice, freedom and despair, love and fear, a chronicle of surrender and resistance. It is a story of occasional victories and frequent failures. A story of losing control over one's life.The shock and radical reality check of being arrested, the frustration of two years in prison prior to being convicted to 10 years, the hope and despair of waiting for a High Court appeal that culminated in being released 20 months later.This is a journey shared honestly with its occasional ugliness and laughter. Full of insights into India and the basic corruption of Indian officialdom either via casteism or religion.
