For children to really succeed in the KS2 SATs, they need confidence in their own ability and they need to be able to talk about their work with adults. Many adults are a little nervous about teaching their children 'the wrong way' in maths because they have heard that the subject is taught differently today. The Primary Maths Is Not A Mystery series is a set of books that show adults how maths is taught, giving the adult a chance to discuss confidently and work with their child. The work progresses in gentle steps and their is lots of opportunity to practice and to see in detail how the answers to questions have been worked out. In this book we are learning about averages. Most of the book is based on looking at the ‘mean’ average, because that is the thing you must know about at KS2. But we will also look at the other types of averages as well – just briefly – because they are important, and you will need to study them at secondary school, so it won’t hurt to be familiar with them.
