Detection Technologies for Chemical Warfare Agents and Toxic Vapors
Book information
Description
With this volume, the authors (both formerly of the U.S. Army's Edgewood Arsenal) hope to provide policy makers and the general public with an introduction to the methodologies and technologies used to detect chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals. After providing physical, chemical, and toxicological information on some of the more dangerous agents and compounds; a summary of U.S. government programs and policies regarding these chemicals; and detector selection factors; they present chapters explaining the use of ion mobility spectrometry, flame photometry, infrared spectroscopy, surface acoustic wave and electrochemical techniques, colorimetric technology, and photoionization and flame ionization techniques. Appendixes include a material safety data sheet, an index of chemical agent detectors and supplies and manufacturers, and an outline for standard operational procedure.
