Description

The title is very misleading. There is little in this book about "building online communities". Rather it is a book about tools which can be used for building online communities. Second, the information, particularly on Drupal, is very much outdated. The book's discussion is about Drupal version 4.6.Drupal is currently at version 6.10 and there are substantial differences. Likewise, the book describes phpBB v2.0.x - and the current version is 3.0.4. There are what amount to a few notes in the book about the newer version, but not much. The notes were clearly an afterthought. Wordpress v. 1.5 is described. The current version is 2.7 - and a lot has changed. Finally the depth and quality of instruction provided here is limited. There isn't anything you can't find online and a lot of it seems copied almost verbatim from online sources. There is almost nothing significant about "building online communities". Just some generalities. Overall, this is not a very satisfying book at this time. The title is misleading. The subject versions are outdated. And there is little here you can't find online. Jerry
