The thematic contents of this book encapsulate as many issues as possible concerning the three immediate neighbours – China, India and Nepal. In short, it can be called “triangular relations” though it does not fully justify the structure of the book. For, its contents are much more related to India and Nepal with less focus on the complex geo-political compulsions and dynamics of trilateral aspects of relationship. The editors of the book have however done justice to the theme of conference by giving opportunity to as many upcoming and budding scholars as possible. Today, it has been greatly felt that project consultants are at hand; it is very difficult to locate any serious scholars on even the very common and regularly discussed subject like India-Nepal relation. Expertise is now confined to short-term paper writing and participation in discussion forums but not to in-depth studies and researches. Even prestigious institutions seem to be on decline compared to their past records of excellence. For Nepali young scholars, some of the Indian universities proved to be the breeding grounds in the past but that tradition is on the decline with the general decline of standard of education. Serious studies on country like Nepal, India and China therefore become significant only when a new generation of scholars develop a culture of research and communication. Learning languages and societies together with interest to be inculcated by them would contribute a great deal in this respect. 1.
