Metro Coaches Designing for Excellence
Book information
Description
Each Metro Project is different & unique in itself and therefore, needs careful attention of the designer to produce an Optimally Designed Coach. The usual approach of coach supplier to offer a standard coach from his stable does not work, as it may lead to inefficient coach being accepted which may, in turn, lead to excessive forces causing extra wear & tear of wheels & rails, extra energy consumption, improper curving etc. The common thinking on the part of coach supplier that “ONE SIZE FITS ALL” does not hold good in case of Metro Projects. The Engineer needs to have an idea about number & sharpness of curves, gradients, length of transition curves, track twist & track tolerances etc. of the new project before taking up the Design / design verification work. The author has, therefore, added 3 separate chapters on track to enable the Engineer to understand the importance of track parameters on the performance of the coach. Author delivered 32 lectures on Mechanical Design of Metro Coaches to the newly recruited graduate engineers as well as serving senior engineers of DMRC Rolling Stock wing between Jan. 2019 to Feb. 2020. Further delivery of lectures in person was interrupted due to COVID19. The author, therefore, prepared remaining lectures from home & sent them to DMRC. All these lectures, which cover a complete spectrum of Mechanical Design of Metro Coaches are now being published in the form of a book for the benefit of existing & future engineers entrusted with the task of Designing & Design Verification of Metro Coaches in India & Abroad. These lectures can impart a complete & comprehensive technical knowledge about Mechanical Aspects of Metro Coach Design for any future Metro Project. All relevant formulae applicable to various elements of coach suspension system on the overall performance of the coach have been included in each chapter. It would enable the Engineer to understand the effect of any parameter change on the performance of the coach. In case, the reader is interested in understanding various suspension systems, he may refer to author’s book “Suspension Systems for Passenger Coaches”, available on “GOOGLE”. The author can be reached at +91 9818646656 for any clarification on the subject. Chapter 1 Safety, Stability And Curvability For 6-12 Passenger Coaches Chapter 2 Vehicle Dynamics 13-24 Chapter 3 Optimizing Bogie Design To Suit Sharp Curves 25-34 Chapter 4 Effect Of Wheel Tread Profile On Curving 35-39 Behaviour And Selection Of Optimal Wheel Tread Profile Chapter 5 Suspension System For Coaching Stock 40-53 Chapter 6 Rail Wheel Interaction 54-58 Chapter 7 Design Of Bogie Frame 59-63 Chapter 8 Finite Element Method (FEM) 64-70 Chapter 9 Bogie Frame Testing (Structural Strength Tests) 71-79 For RS10 Stock Chapter 10 Design Of Wheels And Axles 80-101 Chapter 11 Material Used For Wheels Of Rolling Stock 102-105 And Wheel Tread Damage Chapter 12 Wheel Defects And Repair Guidance 106-120 Chapter 13 Use Of Aluminum Alloys For Railway Coaches 121-126 Chapter 14 Brakes, Calculating Braking Distance And 127-136 Brake Blocks Chapter 15 Effect Of Gauge Widening On Curving 137-138 Behavior, Wheel And Rail Wear And Safety Against Derailment Chapter 16 Track Geometry And Track Tolerances 139-146 Chapter 17 Forces On A Curve, Transition Curve, 147-151 Balancing Speed, Safe Speed and Cant Deficiency

Professional Linux kernel architecture ''Wrox programmer to programmer''--Cover. - ''What you are reading right now is the result of an evolution over more than seven years: After two years of writing, the first edition was published in German by Carl Hanser Verlag in 2003. It then described kernel 2.6.0. The test was used as a basis for the low-level design documentation for the EAL4+ security evaluation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, requiring to update it to kernel 2.6.18 (if the EAL acronym does not mean anything to you, then Wikipedia is once more your friend). Hewlett-Packard sponsored the translation into English and has, thankfully, granted the rights to publish the result. Updates to kernel 2.6.24 were then performed specifically for this book''--P. ix
