Description

This Book generates new mainstream knowledge for Indonesia and the world about the existence of Javanese diaspora in the post-colonial era. The Netherlands,a country that had colonized Java for hundreds of years, is selected as the first case study as a matter of fact that is now home to thousands of Javanese descendants. This book tells in detail about the Javanese diaspora in the Netherlands as classified into three categories referring to the history of migration and identity attachment: indies-Javanese diaspora, Indonesian-Javanese diaspora, and Suriname-Javanse diaspora. Along with the Golong Gilig project, the Cultural board of Yogyakarta special province government has been initiating future long-term goals on knowledge production about Javanese diaspora. As produced at the hands of several young professional researchers, this book is a historic work for the mission reviving the Nusantara renaissance. To accommodate global readers, it is written in Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Ngoko Javanese. For the first time in Javanese history, as a pioneer, this book uses Ngoko Javanese which is an oral-based lingua franca widely used by Javanese diaspora around the world. In the publications catalogue 2017, Golong Gilig project had produced three multilingual books on Javanese diaspora : Babad Jawa ing Paran"Bab Jawa ing Landa" (the Chronicle of Javanese Diaspora}; Wong Jawa ing Landa (the Javanese people in the Netherlands); and Javanese Arts and Literature: the Visual Story of Javanese in the Netherlands Chapter 1 The Coming of Javanese in the Netherlands. 1.1 The History of Indonesian Javanese in the Netherlands. 1.2 The History of Suriname in the Netherlands.
