The book will give readers the tools and concrete examples they need to begin to make immediate change at their schools and in their communities. The overall change process described in Chapter 1 will help educators identify problems, create vision statements, brainstorm appropriate change actions, identify obstacles to change, learn strategies to achieve buy-in from multiple stakeholders, and determine resources to help achieve their goals. Each subsequent chapter will depict real-life case studies and lessons learned around common areas for changes in school based on our SPACE framework: S-Students' Use of Time (homework, scheduling more free time, etc.)P-Project and Problem-Based Learning (Plagiarism-proof assignments, final projects instead of exams, etc.)A-Alternative and Authentic Assessments (multiple forms of assessement, peer reviews, etc.)C-Climate of Care (social and emotional learning, better relationships between teachers and students, etc.)E-Educate Parents, Students and Faculty (parent involvement, planning tools for students, etc.)
