Book information
Description
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin New Series, Vol. 26, No. 3 (Nov., 1967), pp. 117-128 (article consists of 12 pages) Published by: The Metropolitan Museum of Art Everybody knows what fashion is; it hits us in the eye every time we go into the street. And most people are convinced that they know what art is, although they would be hard put to define it. Beauty then! For it is the obvious purpose of art to produce beauty; and it is the obvious purpose of fashion to make women beautiful. Fashion, art, beauty must surely mean the same thing, or so nearly the same thing that we can swallow them all in one gulp and rest content.
