Description

The subject of the book is optoelectronic devices. These are semiconductor devices that employ the interaction of electrons and photons in order to transform electrical into optical signals and vice versa. The large variety of devices, materials, and theoretical approaches often makes it difficult for an experimental researcher to select the appropriate software. Therefore, this book presents a review of devices and approaches, written by leading software providers, in collaboration with partners in the industry or academia. The target audience is students, device engineers, and researchers who are not familiar with the theory behind the software. Each chapter will provide an easy-to-understand introduction to the physics and the main equations, as well as material parameters essential for realistic simulations. The goal is to enhance the general understanding, acceptance, and use of numerical simulations.      The most essential part of this book project is to make it easy for the reader to actually perform advanced simulations himself/herself. Each software package discussed in the book will be available for download in a trial/demo version. This way, every reader is quickly able to repoduce and build on the results shown in the book.
