Description

Origen and Jerome were among the most important theologians of Christian antiquity. With Origen, scholarly Christian theology began on the level of the Hellenistic scholarship of his era. Origen laid the basis to both Christian dogmatics and exegesis of the Bible. Jerome first admired Origen, but then turned away from him. As translator and commentator of the Bible, Jerome was the greatest philologist of the Old Church. Due to his excellent knowledge of Hebrew - unique for his time - he mediated Jewish traditions to the Latin West.
