Description

This collection includes articles on the history of China during Manzhou rule (17th-early 20th cent.). Drawing on Russian archival documents, their authors trace the process of consolidation of Manzhou tribes in the period between the end of the 16th and the middle of the 17th centuries, their penetration into the upper Amur basin in the 1680s, and the conquest of China. Much space is given to the foreign policy of the Qings: their conquest of Zhungeer and Eastern Turkestan, the invasion of Vietnam, and relations with Tibet. The authors of the articles analyse the activity of the state apparatus of the Qings and their ideological policy. A great deal of attention is devoted to popular anti-Manzhou movements and risings in China, and to the struggle against the Manzhous during the Xinhai revolution.
