Dieser Sammelband fasst Referate und Ergebnisse einer internationalen Tagung zusammen, die im Mai 2006 in Zittau stattfand. Die Autoren setzen sich mit Nachhaltigkeitsstrategien auseinander, die durch unterschiedliche länder- und institutionenbezogene Sichtweisen eine innovative Differenzierung erhalten. Unter Berücksichtigung vorhandener Erfahrungen in den EU-Ländern Deutschland, Polen und Tschechische Republik wird für die Gestaltung eines effizienten Informations- und Wissenstransfers der spezifische Blick auf die Ukraine und Kasachstan gerichtet. Von besonderer Bedeutung ist in diesem Zusammenhang die Rolle der Hochschulen. Die hochschulbezogene Verantwortung zur aktiven Gestaltung einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung wird zunächst auf der Grundlage spezieller Lehr- und Forschungsschwerpunkte diskutiert. Des Weiteren wird der Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit öffentliche und private Förderprogramme für die Unterstützung entsprechender Aktivitäten strategisch genügend konzipiert sind. Der internationale Vergleich zwischen den Erfahrungen aus fünf Ländern ist ein weiterer interessanter Schwerpunkt dieser Publikation.
