Description

Researchers from a range of disciplines discuss the role of interface science in environmental remediation. They focus on applications to abating nitrogen-oxygen and sulfur-oxygen compounds, water treatment, catalysis for organic pollutant remediation, and waste minimization and recycling. Among specific topics are the chemistry of sulfur oxides on transition metal surfaces, designing and synthesizing new materials for heavy element waste remediation, detoxifying concentrated halogenated gas streams using solid supported nickel catalysts, and recycling polymer waste over used catalysts. The 17 studies were developed from presentations at the symposium Application of Interface Science to Environmental Pollution Control (Chicago, August 2001).
