Description

The purpose of this book is to provide a text for a one-semester (or onequarter)senior course in solid state physics for majors in physics, chemistry,and electrical engineering. This text was written to satisfy a need growing outof extensive revisions of both the upper and lower division undergraduatecurricula in physics, with an emphasis on the unity of the subject.With the advent of the quarter system at The University of Cincinnati, anundergraduate modern physics program has been instituted which utilizesmany of the recent unified texts. An example is a three-quarter senior coursethat begins with introductory material in quantum theory and then goes onto nuclear and solid state physics.
