Description

The year 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the RCAF. This book is a tribute to the Canadian Forces men and women and the families who supported them to help build and preserve our nation in times of peace and war. The photos, artwork and stories found here give a brief overview of the historical aircraft that were flown and serviced from the earliest days of aviation in Canada, to the equipment being used by our astronauts in the present day. The photos and data found in this book should serve to bring back many wonderful memories for those of us who love Canadian military aviation. ***** Major (Retired) Harold A. Skaarup served with the Canadian Forces as an Army Intelligence Officer, retiring in August 2011. During his 40 years of service, he was a member of the Canadian Airborne Regiment and served three tours with the Canadian Forces Parachute Demonstration Team “The Skyhawks”. He served overseas as an Army Intelligence Officer with HQ CFE and 4 CMBG in Lahr, Germany and with NORAD in Colorado Springs. He has been on operational deployments with the UN in Nicosia, Cyprus, with SFOR in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and with ISAF’s KMNB in Kabul, Afghanistan. Married to Faye, he lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick and enjoys being a grandparent. He earned his Fine Arts degree through NSCAD in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and his Master's degree in War Studies through the Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario.
