EVALUANDO EL DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE EN LA REGIÓN LORETO: UNA APLICACIÓN DE UN ENFOQUE BASADO EN SOSTENIBILIDAD DÉBIL

El objetivo del estudio es evaluar la sostenibilidad de la economía del departamento Loreto durante el periodo 1994-2012 mediante el indicador Inversión Genuina, el cual establece que si la riqueza ha sido no decreciente en un periodo dado, entonces la economía ha estado en la senda del desarrollo sostenible en ese periodo. Los resultados demuestran que la riqueza per-cápita aumentó en 13%, aun cuando no hay evidencia que esto esté vinculado a una adecuada gestión local. Sin embargo, Loreto no ha estado está acumulando el suficiente capital que pueda garantizar la generación de ingresos en el futuro. Por ende, la estancia de Loreto en la senda del desarrollo sostenible ha sido fugaz, lo cual es preocupante para una economía con altos niveles de pobreza y desigualdad. ABSTRACT The aim of the study is to assess the sustainability of the economy of Loreto during the period 1994-2012 by the Genuine Investment indicator which is based on wealth: If wealth is increasing over a period then the economy was on the sustainable development path. The results show that per-capita wealth increased by 13%, even though there is no evidence that this is linked to adequate local management. However, Loreto has not accumulated enough stock of capital that can ensure income generation in the future.
