Description

After providing historical perspective on the phenomenon of business owners using their firms as laboratories for social innovation by discussing 19th-century British industrialist Robert Owen, Quarter (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, U. of Toronto) presents 11 case studies of contemporary innovators from the US, UK, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. An interpretive framework for these studies based on four propositions concludes the volume. Proposition one states that business success requires having the control that allows initiating innovations. The others relate to innovation-sustaining conditions.
