Description

Hypersingular formulation of crack problems offers certain advantages in fracture analysis, such as having the unknown functions in the formulation directly related to the crack opening displacement and allowing for easy extraction of the crack tip stress intensity factors. Hypersingular integral equations in fracture analysis is concerned with the mathematical formulation and solution of boundary value problems in fracture mechanics. This title explains how hypersingular integral equations are derived and solved for some important classes of plane crack problems in linear elasticity. The book consists of six sections, with opening chapters covering elastic crack problems, fracture mechanics, equations of elasticity and finite-part integrals. The second and third sections analyse hypersingular integral equations for coplanar cracks in anisotropic elastic media and numerical methods for solving hypersingular integral equations respectively. Hypersingular boundary integral method for arbitrarily oriented planar cracks is the subject of chapter four, and numerical Green’s function boundary element approach and extensions are the focus of chapters five and six.
