They had a marriage-by-proxy, but when the princess heard (allegedly) that the prince had leprosy, she entered a convent, taking the habit/veil of widows (not virgins). Entrance into religion before consummation is permitted. The prince wanted to consummate the marriage, but the princess died in the meantime.
