The IV Iberoamerican Conference on Topology and its Applications (IV CITA) tookplace in Coimbra, on April 18-21, 2001. This international meeting was attended by 79participants, from 21 countries, and the program consisted of 8 invited lectures and 56contributed talks, on different areas of general topology.This was the fourth of a series of conferences that are held every two years: the first onetook place in Benicàssim, Spain, March, 1995, the second in Morelia,Mexico and the thirdin Gandía, Spain. The aim of the conferences is to gather international experts on topology,in particular Iberoamerican mathematicians.IV CITA celebrated Prof. Bernhard Banaschewski seventy-fifth birthday. Several talkswere related to his work on general topology and order theory, with particular emphasis onpoint-free topology, and several of his collaborators participated.The conference was organized by Maria Manuel Clementino, Jorge Picado, LurdesSousa, Maria João Ferreira, Gonçalo Gutierres and Dirk Hofmann, and sponsored bythe Center for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra, the Portuguese Foundation forScience and Technology and the University of Coimbra.This volume contains the proceedings of IV CITA, and includes twenty-one papers thatwere submitted and refereed for the proceedings. We thank the referees for their valuablecollaboration on the selection and improvement of the papers.
