Language Notes Text: English (translation) Original Language: German About the Author Martin Dibelius (1883-1947) was professor of New Testament at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and one of the most important biblical scholars of the twentieth century. Among his many publications in English are From Tradition to Gospel (1934), Gospel Criticism and Christology (1935), A Fresh Approach to the New Testament and Early Christian Literature (1936), The Sermon on the Mount (1940), Jesus (1949), Paul (1953), The Pastoral Epistles (Hermeneia; Fortress Press, 1972), and James (Hermeneia; Fortress Press, 1976). Hans Conzelmann (1915--1989) dedicated himself to New Testament studies at the universities of T bingen, Heidelberg, and G ttingen in Germany. His The Theology of St. Luke, introduced a new epoch in the interpretation of the Synoptic Gospels, followed by landmark studies on Jesus and Paul. Among his many influential works are his three Fortress Press Hermeneia Commentaries: 1 Corinthians, The Acts of the Apostles (1987) and, with Martin Dibelius, The Pastoral Epistles (1975). Helmut Koester is John H. Morison Research Professor of Divinity, and Winn Research Professor of Ecclesiastical History, Harvard Divinity School.
