In the Chess world, Silman is "only" IM standard, but my goodness he knows how to explain the game *so* well, far better than many GMs. Silman quite simply writes on your wavelength. Reading this book, I felt he was literally plugging into my mind - he certainly seemed to know how *I* think and how *I* choose moves and analyse positions and plans at my ca. 2000 ELO "glass-ceiling". The book is a "must-have" for serious amateurs and I believe it will be seen as a Classic many years from now. To get the most benefit, send wife and children away for 2 weeks - or longer .-)
