Description

The primary emphasis in this book is on the simulation of realistic replicas of radar signals that occur at various points in a radar system. It is a subject of great importance because of the direct impact it has on the quality of the simulation results; yet signals are seldom treated with high fidelity in radar system simulation. The basic reason for this neglect is the complexity of the subject. Simple approaches either do not have the required accuracy or would be prohibitively costly to implement. It is the intent of the author to provide a systematic approach to simulating radar signals that recognizes the need for both accuracy and computational efficiency. With few exceptions, only digital computer techniques are discussed. The radar environment composed of multiple fluctuating targets and nonhomogeneous clutter is too complex for an analog treatment. Considering the convenience, high speed, and low cost of modern digital computers, their use in radar simulations is indeed practical.
