Description

In 1910, Magnus Hirschfeld coined the term "transvestite". That same year, he penned the first full-length book on the subject. Two years later, he and Max Tilke published this compilation of illustrations to accompany "Transvestites: The Erotic Drive to Cross-Dress", the English translation of which is also available in three parts from Amazon. Hirschfeld's "Gender Transitions (Geschlechtsübergänge): Mixtures of Male and Female Gender Characteristics (Sexual Intermediaries)", published in 1906, and these two writings form a trio of the earliest works on transgender studies. They are historical pieces, so, they do not reflect all of today's gender identities -- they came only later; however, the later works stand on the shoulders of this early pioneer. Lombardi-Nash translated these works because they are the first basic, seminal writings on the subject.Hirschfeld, M. and M. Tilke. (2022).
