Description

Global challenges ranging from climate change and ecological regime shifts to refugee crises and post-national territorial claims are rapidly moving ecosystem thresholds and altering the social fabric of societies worldwide. This book addresses the vital question of how to navigate the contested forces of stability and change in a world shaped by multiple interconnected global challenges. It proposes that senses of place is a vital concept for supporting individual and social processes for navigating these contested forces and encourages scholars to rethink how to theorise and conceptualise changes in senses of place in the face of global challenges. It also makes the case that our concepts of sense of place need to be revisited, given that our experiences of place are changing. This book is essential reading for those seeking a new understanding of the multiple and shifting experiences of place. 01.0_pp_i_ii_Changing_Senses_of_Place 02.0_pp_iii_iii_Changing_Senses_of_Place 03.0_pp_iv_iv_Copyright_page 04.0_pp_v_vi_Dedication 05.0_pp_vii_x_Contents 06.0_pp_xi_xvi_Contributors 07.0_pp_xvii_xviii_Foreword 08.0_pp_xix_xix_Preface 09.0_pp_xx_xx_Acknowledgements 10.0_pp_1_18_Introduction 11.0_pp_19_76_Climate_Change_and_Ecological_Regime_Shifts 11.1_pp_21_31_Coral_Reef_Collapse_and_Sense_of_Place_in_the_Great_Barrier_Reef_Australia 11.2_pp_32_42_Navigating_the_Temporalities_of_Place_in_Climate_Adaptation 11.3_pp_43_52_The_PlaceSubjectivity_Continuum_after_a_Disaster 11.4_pp_53_64_Changing_Sense_of_Place_and_Local_Responses_to_Bengalurus_Disappearing_Lakes 11.5_pp_65_76_Place-Making_for_Regional_Conservation 12.0_pp_77_128_Migration_Mobility_and_Belonging 12.1_pp_79_91_Exploring_Senses_of_Place_Through_Narratives_of_Tourism_Growth_and_Place_Change 12.2_pp_92_102_No_One_Is_a_Prophet_at_Home 12.3_pp_103_115_Place_Detachment_and_the_Psychology_of_Nonbelonging 12.4_pp_116_128_Sense_of_Place_in_Urban_China 13.0_pp_129_168_Renewable_Energy_Transitions 13.1_pp_131_143_Farming_Landscapes_Energy_Landscapes_or_Both 13.2_pp_144_155_Auto-Photography_Senses_of_Place_and_Public_Support_for_Marine_Renewable_Energy 13.3_pp_156_168_A_Life_Course_Approach_to_the_Pluralisation_of_Sense_of_Place 14.0_pp_169_206_Nationalism_and_Competing_Territorial_Claims 14.1_pp_171_181_Ethnocentric_Bias_in_Perceptions_of_Place 14.2_pp_182_192_Sense_of_Place_Between_Spatial_Justice_and_Urban_Violence_in_Palestine 14.3_pp_193_206_The_Political_Ecology_of_Place_Meaning 15.0_pp_207_244_Urban_Change 15.1_pp_209_220_Uncovering_Competing_Senses_of_Place_in_a_Context_of_Rapid_Urban_Change 15.2_pp_221_233_Gentrification_and_the_Creative_Destruction_of_Sense_of_Place 15.3_pp_234_244_Looking_at_the_Urban_Invisibles 16.0_pp_245_284_Technological_and_Legal_Transformations 16.1_pp_247_258_Electronically_Mediated_Sense_of_Place 16.2_pp_259_270_A_Dynamic_View_of_Local_Knowledge_and_Epistemic_Bonds_to_Place 16.3_pp_271_284_Social_Media_and_Experiences_of_Nature 17.0_pp_285_328_Design_and_Planning_Strategies_for_Changing_Senses_of_Place 17.1_pp_287_300_Local_Senses_of_Place_in_a_Global_World 17.2_pp_301_312_Urban_Experimentation_and_the_Role_of_Senses_of_Place 17.3_pp_313_328_Domestic_Matters 18.0_pp_329_347_Conclusion 18.1_pp_331_347_Navigating_the_Spaciousness_of_Uncertainties_Posed_by_Global_Challenges 19.0_pp_348_358_Index

Professional Linux kernel architecture ''Wrox programmer to programmer''--Cover. - ''What you are reading right now is the result of an evolution over more than seven years: After two years of writing, the first edition was published in German by Carl Hanser Verlag in 2003. It then described kernel 2.6.0. The test was used as a basis for the low-level design documentation for the EAL4+ security evaluation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, requiring to update it to kernel 2.6.18 (if the EAL acronym does not mean anything to you, then Wikipedia is once more your friend). Hewlett-Packard sponsored the translation into English and has, thankfully, granted the rights to publish the result. Updates to kernel 2.6.24 were then performed specifically for this book''--P. ix
