Description

Spain Since 1812, Third Edition has been revised and updated to take account of the policy and image changes introduced by Rodriguez Zapatero's Socialist government after 2004. It examines negotiations to end violence in the Basque country, Spain's changing relationship with the European Union and the United States, and the effects of the defeated Conservatives on the current political climate. Arranged chronologically, each chapter begins with-and is set in context by-an overview of major events and movements in Europe as a whole. The text places emphasis on understanding major developments and their causes, and the relationships between them. Spanish terms associated with key concepts and figures are introduced and explained throughout the text, and extracts from contemporary Spanish texts in the original and in translation enable students to see first hand the mood of the time. Chapters end with topics for discussion to encourage critical thinking.
