Description

Meier is lighter on exegesis of each separate pericope (although it treats a few passages in detail that are key to understanding Mathew), but he focuses on the structure and overarching intent of the whole gospel, how Mathew shaped his sources to fit his own vision and the needs of the church he was serving. This is a healthy exercises in reading the gospel as a whole to get a broad vision and understanding that is not available from a focus on each chapter and verse.
