A Short History of Denmark in the 20th Century
Book information
Description
Over 350 pages, Bo Lidegaard tells the history of Denmark and the Danes over the past 100 years - from the system change in 1901, when the real power passed from the king to the Parliament, to the latest in 2001. Lidegaard tells in a clear form and - also in English - as usual well-written about how Danish society has developed through two world wars, from farming society to industrial society and to the information and knowledge society we live in today. In addition to the historical events and people, concepts and movements that are particularly Danish and that foreigners are typically unfamiliar with are described: the cooperative movement, the so-called Danish model for the labor market, the relationship between monarchy and democracy, etc. And of course Denmark's special position during the Occupation, where not least the rescue of the Danish Jews is known and respected around the globe.
