This book is really a review of books. When it came to thetask of defining the boundaries of feminist knowledge I soon realisedthat it was not possible to include all the feminist ideas to which I havehad access in discussions, courses, meetings, and all the many socialcontexts in which feminist ideas are raised and exchanged. Unless I wasgoing to write volumes (and Ros de Lanerolle of the Women's Presswarned against such an eventuality) it was regrettable but clear that Ihad to limit the scope of my discussion. And so for many reasons Idecided to confine my evaluation of feminist ideas to some of the'classics' of feminism.
